Start with Your Favorite Colors

When it comes to choosing your wedding colors, you should definitely take inspiration from your personal style and favorite things!

Think about the colors you love to wear, the flowers you love, and even the food you love. Use these as inspiration when choosing your wedding colors. When certain colors make you feel happy and comfortable, that’s only going to add to the overall vibe of your wedding day, and make you happy to see those colors all around you in a beautiful way!

Consider Your Wedding Season

One of the first things to consider when choosing your wedding colors is the season in which your wedding will take place. The season can influence the colors you choose and create a natural theme for your wedding.

For example, if you’re having a summer wedding, you may want to choose bright, bold colors like coral, turquoise, or yellow. On the other hand, if you’re having a winter wedding, you may want to opt for darker, more dramatic colors like deep red, navy, and emerald green. For a spring wedding, you might consider using shades of pink, green, and yellow, even softer blues and purples. If you're getting married in the fall, shades of orange, red, and brown might be more appropriate.

Don’t feel like you’re limited to pastels in the spring or warm tones in the fall, of course! Take a look at what’s in season and let that be a source of inspiration!

Purchase Your Wedding Dress First

Your wedding dress is likely to be the centerpiece of your wedding day, so it's important to choose wedding colors that complement it. If your dress is off-white or ivory, almost any color will work well with it.

If your dress is a different color, like a champagne or blush - we’re even seeing light blue and lavender wedding dresses! So my advice is always to purchase your wedding dress first, before you start finalizing colors and details! You'll want to choose wedding colors that coordinate well.

Think About Your Venue

The venue you choose for your wedding can also be a great source of inspiration for your wedding colors. Look at the walls, floors, and other decor in your venue to get an idea of what colors would work well and create a cohesive look.

For example, if your venue has a lot of neutral colors like white or beige, you may want to choose bolder colors like fuchsia or cobalt blue to add some contrast. If your venue has a lot of natural elements like wood and greenery, you may want to choose earthy colors like forest green and brown.

Select A Main Color and Accent Colors

To create a cohesive look for your wedding, it can be helpful to choose one main color and then incorporate accent colors to add interest and depth. For example, if your main color is blush pink, you could incorporate accent colors like gold, ivory, and sage green. Be sure to choose accent colors that complement your main color and create a cohesive look.

Look At Wedding Color Palettes Online

If you’re struggling to come up with a color scheme for your wedding, you can find plenty of resources online. Websites like Pinterest or other wedding inspiration & planning websites are great places to find wedding color ideas and inspiration. You can also use online color palettes to help you choose colors that work well together!

A lot of wedding planning websites will also showcase upcoming trends in weddings. This can be a great way to get ahead of current trends and plan colors and ideas that are upcoming! The last thing you want is for your wedding day to approach, and you see thousands of other weddings online doing the same ideas or color scheme as your wedding. While your wedding day could never look exactly like someone else’s - if you consider yourself a trend-setter or like to be different, you’ll want to look ahead to what's going to be trending when you get married!

Consider Your Skin Tones

Another factor to consider when choosing your wedding colors is your skin tone. You want to choose colors that will look good on you and your bridal party. If you have a cool skin tone, you may want to consider colors like silver, lavender, or deep blue. If you have a warm skin tone, you may want to consider colors like gold, coral, or olive green.

Use Color In Small Doses

When it comes to incorporating your wedding colors, it’s important to use them in small doses. You don’t need to use your colors everywhere. Instead, use them in small doses to add pops of color and interest. For example, you could use your colors for your wedding invitations, bridesmaid dresses, and floral arrangements. You could also incorporate your colors in your wedding signage and even in your signature bar drinks, napkins, or drink koozies!

Don’t Be Afraid To Mix & Match

You don’t need to stick to just two or three colors when choosing your wedding colors. Mixing and matching different shades and tones of your chosen colors can add depth and interest. For example, if you’ve chosen blush pink as your main color, you could incorporate different shades of pink like dusty rose and magenta as your accent colors.

Use Neutrals To Balance Out Bold Colors

If you're using bold, bright colors in your wedding, it's a good idea to balance them out with some more neutral shades. White, beige, and gray are great neutral shades that can help tone down brighter or more bold colors.

Use Color Swatches

Once you've narrowed down your wedding color selections, it's a great idea to get some color swatches to help you visualize how they will look together. You can get color swatches from a variety of sources, including paint stores, fabric stores, or wedding supply shops.
